Draft Statement
For Project 1, my piece will be a one minute video. With Now Is The Time as the thematic prompt, I felt the title implied a focus on the contemporary issues of our time while simultaneously serving as a call to action. With that in mind, I chose to confront our climate crisis. It's difficult to exaggerate the immediate danger those born at the start of the new millennium will face in their lifetimes. I want to call attention to the damage that is being done to nature, and inherently, ourselves in the process. What I hope to communicate and inspire is a sense of dependency and kinship that's intrinsic in the relationship between every living being on Earth. And even more so, a change in action. Whether that be personal practice in regard to recycling or sustainable consumer behavior like up-cycling and thrifting, or more direct action like protesting.
- iPhone
- Almost everyone has access to an iPhone or more broadly a smartphone. People have the ability to zoom in, pause, screenshot ad then share with others the video they watch. That's what makes it an essential platform to exist on.

- Time Square Mega Screen
- Displaying a video on a Time Square billboard ascribes a feeling of monumentality. It demands the viewer to stand at the screen, staring up at it with full attention (so long as it is something captivating). The adverse effect to using a billboard is that after people have seen it once or twice, it is disregarded as background noise.

- Laptop
- I originally had "Display TVs" in this section but felt that the average person doesn't come in contact with that setup enough in their daily lives to warrant it. I chose the laptop instead because once again most people utilize a laptop, and while it offers most of the same functionalities that a smartphone does, I feel the laptop inherently prompts people to research what they have read / watched. That is a secondary goal of the video, to encourage people to research the theme and to continue that practice of self-initiated learning.
